Meet the Christmas 2013 Giveaway Winner

I am pleased to introduce to you the winner of the Christmas 2013 Giveaway. This competition, linked to the Advent Calendar, celebrated the launch of the new Simply Raw website and gave an opportunity to win a Vitaleo juice extractor which was graciously offered by my major supplier Kunzvital, with whom I have successfully partnered for several years.

And the winner is…. Christine Reynaud, who had been a client of Simply Raw for a couple of years. I am thrilled to let her tell her story here…

Christmas came a couple of weeks early here in Villars-sur-Glâne!

 

I was lucky enough to win the Vitaleo juicer in Amy’s Advent competition on Facebook, and thought you might be interested to read about the first steps of my raw food journey.

Originally from the UK, I have lived all my adult life in France and Switzerland. I’m 53 years old, work full time for a tax and management consultancy, and live with my husband and two grown-up up children near Fribourg.

I first heard about raw food when I was on a yoga and juice detox retreat in Spain a couple of years ago. It all made sense (after five days of juice only, your perception is enhanced!), even more so as the lovely teachers and staff at the retreat positively glowed with health and vitality.

Back from Spain and fired with enthusiasm for all things healthy, I went online and found Kunz’Vital from whom I ordered some superfoods to get started. There was some question, one of their employees called me to check, and we got chatting. He was a mine of information and recommended I look at the Simply Raw site, after which I enrolled straight away for the raw food classes at Amy’s home in Morges.

The rest, as they say, is history!

I thoroughly enjoyed the classes, met some great people and now try to use my new knowledge as often as I can. Sometimes it just doesn’t happen, as life having a habit of getting in the way… but it really isn’t too hard to fit two raw meals into the day – which is what I aim for – usually breakfast and lunch.

Juices and smoothies are the obvious solution when you want something quick, nourishing and easy to digest, and also a great way to start the day. Until now I have been using a centrifugal juicer for my juices, and had been thinking about investing in a “slow” juicer so I could add greens and herbs to my juices; thankfully the decision has now been made for me! I’m also looking forward to making the delicious banana ice cream tasted at our first raw food class.

Here are two of my own favourite juice recipes – these quantities make one large glass (possibly more with the Vitaleo):

Beet juiceJuice Recipe 1

1 beetroot
1 orange, peeled
1 carrot
1 apple
Small piece of ginger
Slice of lemon (with peel)

Carrot pineapple juice

 

Juice Recipe 2

¼ pineapple
1 apple
1 carrot
1 stick celery
¼ cucumber
Small piece of ginger
Slice of lemon (with peel)
